Greetings From Vancouver!

February 3, 2010

My first thought, when I learned that Vancouver and Whistler would host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, was, “What took the IOC so long?” These towns are two of North America’s best feel great locales, where everyone seems to have a blast all the time. Why take my word for it? Because I’ve written hundreds of articles about this attitude and these places, about five star sushi lunches followed by long rides in Stanley Park or hangin’ on the Whistler patios for extended après with legs still burning from fresh tracks-to-last run madness. Plus I’ve already written over 25 articles about the Vancouver Olympics, from visitor tips & tricks to culinary explorations to dozens of profiles including Apolo Ohno, Patrick Deneen and Julia Mancuso.

My strategy for blogging the Games for SkiResorts.com is to absorb as much as my brain can handle, whether I’m checking out the men’s downhill, hanging at the Jamaica Bobsleigh House or taking a few runs off the 7th Heaven chair on Blackcomb. I’ll split time between Whistler and Vancouver, where I’ll hit house parties with the Cypress Mountain snowboard crew, meander Yaletown’s official Live Sites and pin down as many trends and attitudes as I can find.

Besides my role as Exclusive Blogger for SkiResorts.com, I’ll call in live every Monday to NPR affiliate, 94.9 KUOW, speak with host Erik Hastings on WABC’s “The Travel Show” and go live with other radio shows all over the US. There’s even talk of some NBC face time.

The Countdown to 2010 is almost over, time to get our race (and party) on Beyond the Gates!
