AFW Brings High Fashion to High Elevation

March 1, 2010

Last year at about this time, the world's most highly-regarded fashionistas descended upon the mecca of winter luxury for the first annual Aspen Fashion Week.  The event was such an uproarious success that they decided to do it again.  Novel idea. Designed to market and showcase winter resort styles and technical outerwear, AFW will feature the highest quality (and most expensive) fashion available.  With high-energy slopeside runway events, daily après ski fashion shows, in-store presentations, on-mountain events and a few late night shindigs, the event is sure to turn Aspen into, well...a bigger, badder version of Aspen from March 14th - 19th.

And guess what?  SkiResorts.com is a proud sponsor of this year's festivities.  We'll be presenting the Parajumpers show on Tuesday, March 16th for any interested parties.  For those unaware, Parajumpers makes some of the most badass ski jackets around.  Dedicated to the 210th Rescue Squadron, based in Anchorage, Alaska, the line of outerwear fuses function, highly technical components and chic looks, all expertly designed by Massimo Rossetti (formerly of Diesel, Woolrich, Valentino and Barbour among others).

But we're not the only ones coming to the party.  W magazine will kick off the week-long event with their annual opening night party and the schedule also includes on-mountain activities with Heidiski, Marmot, Kjus and High Society Free Ride, as well as in-store events with J. Crew, FEED, Ralph Lauren, James Perse, Marmot and The Gallerie, and a variety of other fashion shows and presentations from the likes of Helly Hansen, Obermeyer, Authier, Gray and many more.  For the really dedicated fashion fans, there will also be screenings of Douglas Keeve's films (Hotel Gramercy Park, Seamless, Unzipped and Fashion Kingdom) hosted by supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Don't think that a week-long gathering of designers, models and other high society folks comes without its philanthropic endeavors.  Aspen Fashion Week has partnered with FEED as the official charitable partner of the event and they'll be launching their FEED Nature bag exclusively on-site with proceeds benefiting earthquake victims in Haiti.  The goal of FEED Projects is to market and sell as many FEED bags as possible and to feed and educate the world's 400 million hungry children.  So even if you can't get to Aspen to be a part of this awesome showcase, make sure to visit them at http://www.feedprojects.org/ and do your part.
