Boot Fitters We Swear By

January 20, 2010

No argument, there is no more important piece of equipment than your boots.  Your ski boots can make or break your time on the slopes more than any other equivalent in your ski experience, and yet it always surprises me to see how many people don’t have boots that work for them.  Take the time to do it right, and you’ll never regret it.

There really is no one “best boot” brand.  And ski boots will never be the most attractive footwear you’ll ever put on.  But they don’t have to be frigid torture chambers, and you don’t have to hobble home at the end of the day to ice your tootsies or soak them in a hot tub—unless you want to.  But you do have to have the boot that matches your foot shape and you have to have professional boot fitting support to make that happen.

It’s the one thing I insist upon with my ski school guests, because all of the money, time and effort in the world is not going to overcome a poorly fitted pair of boots.

Granted, not all skiers will invest in ski boots, but if you are planning on skiing more than once in your life time, forget renting and buy a properly fitted boot, preferably with a custom insole.  Take your boots on the airplane or even ship them ahead of time to your location and feel free to rent performance level skis at the resort, but don’t skimp on your foot’s best friend!

I would usually rather try on swimwear in front of an ex-boyfriend than go boot shopping, but the guys at Surefoot make the experience much less painful.  I trust these guys with my life, i.e. ski boots (literally, I’m a ski instructor) and recommend without reservation anything that these guys tell you will work for you.
