Champagne Adventures in Whistler

September 29, 2009

If you like your winter wonderland dining to be as luxurious, exciting and memorable as the rest of your stay in the resort town that has won the heart of the world for the 2010 Winter Olympics, well bon-appetite! From candlelight whispers over crystal, to evenings of decadent debauchery, there is no shortage of brilliance when it comes to dining in Whistler!

I personally LOVE a gourmet experience that leaves memories to take home which are more interesting than any souvenir. The Bearfoot Bistro, located in the heart of Whistler Village, is perhaps the grandest example I can share with you of an exciting and luxurious dining experience.

Bearfoot owner, Andre Saint Jacques, along with award-winning executive chef, Melissa Craig and their insatiable desire to out-deliver themselves on each celebration, are as infamous as the restaurant. They describe their fare as “Modern Canadian Cuisine” and are more than pleased to serve you according to whatever scale your whim may be for the evening, from quiet romance to romancing the epic!

With countless accolades of the highest esteem since it’s opening and the ONLY in Whistler to receive the three stars in the 2009/2010 ‘Where To Eat in Canada” guide, the food is unique, inviting, and masterful. Make sure to try the executive chef’s 3 or 5 course tasting menu.

But let’s talk champagne, because that’s where your night will begin, and it will be the bubbly to end all bubbly. Your ‘dinner with Andre’ will boast the best cellar in ALL of Whistler, and to top that, you will be clinking the crystal in one of only 150 Dom Perignon Houses in the world! Pair that with perhaps the best selection of fresh Oysters in North America? Don’t mind if I do.

Can it get any better than this?  Yes!  How about channeling your inner Musketeer and learning to saber a champagne bottle?
Andre Saint Jacques holds the Guinness World Record for sabering open 21 bottlenecks of Champagne in one minute.  After a brief lesson- and the liquid bubbles of courage from a crystal flute just prior - I too was able to saber a bottle!  I held the saber, gave my best “Hi-yaaaah!” and then whooooosh came the flood of Champagne from my perfectly sliced bottle. I still have the unopened top of the bottle to prove it!

So, come celebrate New Year’s Eve 2010 in finest form. The Barefoot Bistro is accepting reservations. “Package #3” of this New Year’s nosh includes the award-winning executive chef’s four-course meal, live jazz, dancing, party favors and yes people, un-limited Dom Perignon (sabering not included).
