This is the place to eat pie, as good as anything from Cali to Napoli. As the locals will tell you, order the Notorious F.I.G. – it’s literally a slice of heaven: prosciutto, blue + asiago cheeses, truffle oil, and figs! And to convince you further, the F.I.G. won the 2007 World Pizza Championship (yup). If the pizza doesn’t find you nirvana, the meditation-cushion style seating should put you in a state – worry not, though, inflexible ones and those sore from skiing, there are traditional chairs as well. And if you must sit normally, the specialty drinks – martinis, margaritas, the 420 Freeze – should encourage a generally enlightened feeling (if the après-ski swoon is not already doing so).
The Secret Stash subtitles itself as a “gourmet pizzeria,” “lounge and galleria,” and “groove emporium.” It is all those things. Usually a 50/50 ratio of locals to non-locals, the Stash is always full and always warm. Find it at the end of Elk Avenue, lit up under the snow, necklaced in prayer flags, looking like the mystical-mountain eatery it is. Pizzas are about 25$. Drinks, 10$. Go! Eat! And leave replete.
