Go Green, Charming or Luxurious in Jackson Hole

November 5, 2009

No matter what your style, budget or location, Jackson Hole has a lodging option for everyone. If staying at the base of the ski resort is essential, look for hotels in Teton Village - where each of them is just a short walk (or ski) to the lifts. Stay in the Town of Jackson if you would rather be close to world class restaurants, more nightlife, shopping, and the Center for the Arts.

If indulging in life’s finer pleasures is your main objective while in Jackson Hole, then the Four Seasons Resort (placed slopeside at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort) is a must. The immense stone and log structure is more than just warm and welcoming. This ski-in/ski-out hotel is located within a stone’s throw of the Bridger Gondola, Teewinot high-speed quad, and the Mountain Sports School for daily lessons. The hotel’s ski valet at Base Camp will start your day right by having your equipment dried out and your skis waiting for you on the snow. After skiing, head back in and take advantage of the world-class spa facilities to restore your body from 4,139 feet of rugged terrain. With superior in-house restaurants including The Westbank Grill and The Peak, there is almost no need to even leave the Four Seasons except for your time on the mountain.

If eco-friendly is your priority, then the new and hip Hotel Terra, located in Teton Village, should be at the top of your lodging wish list. With amenities like organic bath products, in-room recycling, in-floor heating, and special lighting and windows that have solar orientation, this LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified Hotel has set a new standard for lodging in Jackson Hole. Hotel Terra is also technologically savvy. Free Wi-Fi, flat screen Hi-Def TV’s and iPod docking stations definitely give a new meaning to eco-conscious. In addition to fabulous rooms, the hotel also offers wellness treatments at the Chill Spa, and savory meals at the Terra Café, and Il Villaggio Osteria. Also located within the hotel you can find upscale shopping at Rodeo and ski and snowboard needs and rentals at Jackson Treehouse.  With so many different off mountain options, Hotel Terra’s trendy luxury accommodations are great for those who aren’t ready to call it quits after après ski.

If skiing isn’t exactly your thing, you should definitely stay in the Town of Jackson at The Parkway Inn. This quaint hotel is located just 3 blocks away from the Town Square and is just minutes away from a variety of galleries, shops, spas, and restaurants. The personable staff, and rooms adorned with antiques make the Parkway Inn feel like a home away from home (especially during the holidays). The hotel can also arrange for shuttle services to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (20 minutes away) and Grand Targhee (60 minutes away) if you do decide to partake in any mountain based activities (including crow-country or snow-shoeing). Whatever you decide to do, make sure to enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you head out. After skiing, or a day in the cold air, unwind and warm up in the Parkway’s indoor pool, hot tubs, and saunas. And for a night out, don’t hesitate to ask the friendly and knowledgable staff about their dinner recommendations (also see my article on luxury dining), or for the latest schedule at the Center for the Arts.
