After a powder-filled day on Mt. Werner, point your skis or board to the right at the bottom of the mountain and schuss up to a slopeside table at the Slopeside Grill, where those in the know head for their post-ski libations. It’s the marquee après spot on the mountain, with “meet you at Slopeside” one of the most frequent phrases you’ll hear on the slopes.
At adjacent tables outside you’ll hear locals and tourists alike recounting the day’s action, while parents watch their kids burn off even more energy playing King of the Hill on the snow-mounds outside (hopefully, enough to eventually crash-out in the condo).
From a handmade ice-bar commanding the outside “beach,” you can choose from six micro-brews (yes, they serve pitchers) and eight different martinis. On weekends, rehash the day’s war stories to live music, whose band members command an impromptu snow stage to the west of the outside lounge area.
For food, start with appetizers like nachos with homemade chips, potato stuffers or fried ravioli, then stick around for a full menu of homemade pizzas, all named after local ski runs (try the "White Out" or "Wally World") or other skiing-related terms. Our favorites: the ACL (pepperoni, mushrooms and mozzarella) and Yard Sale (Italian sausage, pepperoni, red and green peppers, red onions, mushrooms, black olives and tomatoes). If burgers are your bag, try the Boat Burger, whose mushrooms, bacon, caramelized onion and cheddar cheese is guaranteed to replenish those carbs left up on the hill. It also boasts the valley’s best baby back ribs.
Have the energy? Stick around for nightly music from jazz to reggae that moves inside and a 10 p.m. to midnight happy hour that offers $6 pizzas and $2 drafts (including Guinness). Then all you have to do is remember where you put your skis.
