Okemo Mountain is home to long, wide, swooping trails that are meticulously groomed – a beginner and intermediate skier’s dream. Given its choice green and blue runs, Okemo is an excellent family mountain with stress-free beginner and intermediate areas – which are serviced in the Jackson Gore area. If you’re looking for something different or more challenging, Okemo has got that as well. Home to five terrain parks, including a superpipe, Okemo has a strong following of snowboarders and park skiers. Along with having an incredible terrain park, a few trails are dedicated solely to moguls for you mogul enthusiasts.
Despite the icy rap East Coast skiing seems to get, Okemo seems to be a head above the rest. Snowmaking is offered on 96% of the trails, and according to Skiing Magazine, the mountain ranks Top 3 in the East for snowmaking quality and #1 in the East for grooming. As a result, Okemo tends to be extremely family oriented, with the majority of the crowds on the groomed trails.
Slope-side condominiums are located throughout the lower half of the mountain and are a must for those interested in getting fresh tracks early in the morning. If skiing didn’t provide an adequate workout, the Spring House fitness center has an 18,000 sq. ft. pool, free weights, and cardio room to finish you off.
For guests unfamiliar with the area, Okemo offers guided tours of the mountain where ambassadors will gladly escort you and your family to the best areas that fit your skiing ability. Although few chairlifts are new this season, almost all of them are updated and modern, and some even have extra padded seating for added comfort during the ride. If you’re interested in backcountry skiing, Okemo is not necessarily the ideal location. However, the terrain park, mogul fields, and some of the steeper groomed runs will produce enough adventure for you.
Although Okemo has a small village of condominiums and mountain services around the base lodge, the majority of restaurants are located at the base of the access road in Ludlow, Vermont.
Ludlow is a small town of approximately 3,000 people with several businesses catering to the needs of the skiers that frequent the area. One standout restaurant to try if you are in the mood for steak is The Corners Inn and Restaurant. If you are craving something else, there are plenty of option for seafood, Italian, and French. The Inn at Weathersfiled (voted one of the top 10 culinary Inns of America and editors choice from Wine Spectator) is a must for fine dining, with the Coleman Brook Tavern, and the Castle Resort and Spa as great alternatives. If you are looking to venture just a little bit farther to Proctorsville, you can experience the Castle. An early 20th century castle, it offers a truly unique dining and lodging experience. Family-friendly with solid snow, Okemo is probably one of the best Vermont ski experiences.
