I recently contacted Scott Mattson at top Vail management company, Peak Properties, to gather some knowledge about what a high-end vacation rental specialist can actually do for a ski resort visitor above and beyond the standard do-it-yourself hotel reservation. Here is what he said:
- Every need can be met. From bedding requests to budget constraints, all vacations can be customized to be a perfect fit. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, we’ve heard it all.
- Our in-house motto is “As long as it is legal in the state of Colorado , we’ll do it!!” Once you’re booked, top-notch management companies should provide you a full menu of concierge services that you can add on to your trip including private airport transport options, personal shopping services, reservation assistance, in-home ski rental delivery, private chef & sommelier offerings, security and child care services, etc. Typically, the services offered on this menu are merely a starting point. We have coordinated heli-skiing trips, flown in fresh seafood, found rare wines, coordinated private jet transport, and created small private events. (We have also heard of a management company that coordinated live reindeer on Christmas morning.)
- You should also expect some sort of “Meet & Greet” session at the actual condo where you will receive a detailed travel and activity itinerary, luggage assistance, and a comprehensive home tour featuring home amenities, the proper use of electronics, and any other unique home features (like a hot tub).
- When dealing with a management company, prompt, friendly and helpful staff over the phone or email is essential. If you call for information, and the rental company takes more than 48 hours to touch base, move on - there are usually more property management companies in resort areas that can better serve you.
- And remember, every condo is unique it what it has to offer. If you are looking for a truly extraordinary experience, there is one to be had. For example, my favorite rental property in our portfolio has to be the former home of President and Mrs. Gerald Ford. I think it is without question one of the finest vacation rental properties available in all of North America. It just underwent a $4 million renovation and a walkthrough of the home is nothing short of jaw dropping. With amenities that include Beaver Creek’s only private indoor pool, a secret service quarters turned poker/billiards room, deluxe screening/theatre room, and the luxurious Presidential Suite, I think staying in the home makes for a once in a lifetime experience. Plus where else can you ski down a run called “President Ford’s”, turn right into the back of the home by the same name, click out of your skis, and relax with a read of President Ford’s own autobiography, in the office where he penned it?
