Viceroy Snowmass, the ski resort’s first luxury boutique hotel, will open as scheduled just in time for the 2009/10 ski season. Included in the new resort is a 7,000 square-foot Viceroy branded spa, a Kelly Wearstler-designed pool, café and cabana area and over 9,000 square feet of flexible meeting space featuring Aspen/Snowmass’ only ski-in/ski-out ballroom. When guests enter the hotel, a nearly 100 foot glass, double-sided bar welcomes them, and leads directly from the lobby to the Viceroy branded restaurant.

Viceroy Snowmass also represents a new opportunity for Aspen visitors who typically stay in Aspen, only to make the daily commute to Snowmass for skiing during the winter months – which has become the norm for many families over the years.

Viceroy Snowmass is the first to appear away from the prototypical beachfront location which has become synonymous with the KOR Group, but given the enviable ski-in/ski-out position of the hotel perched directly atop Snowmass’ new Base Village, the formula for success is a similar one. It is also a LEED Silver Certified resort, and Gold Certification will be something that’s sought after by the KOR Group.

Design at the hotel comes from Kelly Wearstler and Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston International. Wearstler is solely responsible for the exterior pool-side bar and accompanying cabanas and café, which will feature a ski lift running directly over the outdoor café component. Fine hardwoods such as walnut abound the entrance, and feature finely crafted woven leather and bronze, and natural aspen trees also are used throughout the interior.
