Waterville Valley Website
Waterville Valley is a town that was built around skiing. Tucked far away from any other towns and surrounded by mountains, this little valley is a self-contained ski village offering most anything a ski vacationer could want. Townhouses and condos surround a town center that was built to look like a classic New England village. Options for lodging range from plush to basic, and cover everything in between. The Town Square Condos are as conveniently located as they sound, and are a favorite among travelers. Other great options include The Snowy Owl Inn, and The Black Bear Lodge.
In regards to the resort’s terrain, it really is a great mountain for family skiing, with plenty of comfortable cruiser trails for beginners and first timers, and other option sofr the more adventurous skier. Four terrain parks will make every level of rider and skier happy and challenged. The majority of the terrain is intermediate, but there are plenty of difficult and expert only trails to keep you pushing your skills.
Like most New Hampshire ski resorts, snowmaking covers most of the mountain when Mother Nature can't come up with enough. Coupled with plenty of sunshine and its close vicinity to Boston, Waterville Valley is popular destination for week-enders as well as folks taking a week off with the family. Vacation weeks are typically busy. Ski schools get full and lift-lines get a bit congested in main areas, although the lift-line wait never seems to get too long. Overall, the size of the mountain and capacity of the lifts keep the lines moving, and keep the crowds light on the trails.
When it comes to shopping, there are a handful of t-shirt and ski shops that pepper the town. Dining offers more options. Eateries range from little bistros with great sandwiches all the way up to fine dining cuisine that would shame any big city restaurant (Diamond's Edge). For a good variety of casual eats head to the Coyote Grill, and in the morning hit up the Jugtown Coffee Shop for a cup of joe (or grab a bag of fresh ground beans and bring it back to the townhouse). And in case you forget anything at home or if you want to just pickup a quick breakfast or sandwich, you can visit the general store in town.
There are plenty of choices for activities off the hill if skiing isn’t your thing, or if you would just like to mix up activities. A couple of family favorites are the indoor skating rink, and the classic sleigh rides that roll out from the center of town. Waterville Valley also has a great trail system for Nordic skiing if you would like to go for a cross-country outing. In regards to nightlife, the town tends to be pretty quiet considering the family focus, but there are always several events scheduled around the parks, so always check and see what might be going on while you are here!
